"Ottoman Reading Certificate" program has been organized by Hayrat Foundation Şırnak Representative, Şırnak Directorate of National Education and Şırnak Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports.Şırnak Governor Osman Bilgin and our Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış, as well as representatives of many public institutions and organizations and non-governmental organizations attended the program that attracted great interest of citizens. The program which started with a moment of silence and the recitation of the National Anthem, followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış emphasized that the Ottoman Turkish is a rich language consisting of Turkish, Arabic and Persian words, in his speeech and he followed as;" It is the official language of the Ottoman Empire which dominated a wide geography, since the Ascension Period. In this geography, people used to use 3000-5000 words in their speech, but nowadays they use 250-300 words. We can say very clearly that this situation shows that there is a narrowing of the view in many respects. According to Islamic scholars, words are living beings. The meanings are passed on to the next generations through these living words and a line is established between the past and the future. Learning Ottoman Turkish is one of the cornerstones of establishing this line. One of the richest archives in terms of records of the last three centuries is the Ottoman Archive documents. In order to benefit from these documents, we need to know this language with different writing styles. I would like to say this to our colleagues and students who will do academic studies in particular: Those who know Ottoman Turkish will always be a few steps ahead of their other friends. As Şırnak University, we are planning to publish the Ottoman Archive documents related to Şırnak province and its surroundings by transcribing them within the framework of a project".In his speech Osman Bilgin, Governor of Şırnak, also drew attention to the importance of the Ottoman language in order to learn the history and culture of our nation.Following the trainees' section on reading Ottoman texts, a hymn concert and a sema show, the program ended with the delivery of "Ottoman Reading Certificates", which 250 trainees were successful in.
